Class Text Messages
A short text when an assignment is due, when your student is marked absent from my class, or when something about our schedule changes. Families opt in, and you can stop at any time.
What this is
This is a text message program I run for my own classes at City Honors School. It is not a school-wide or district service, and it does not replace any official channel the school uses. It exists because a text reaches most families faster than an email does.

A heads up when your student is marked absent from my period.
Your questions
You can text back. Replies come to me, and I answer during school hours.
Grades, evaluation results, and anything else that belongs in your student’s record are not sent by text. For those, I will call you or email you through my school account.
How to sign up
There are two ways to join, and both require you to give me your mobile number yourself. I never add a number I was not given directly by the parent or guardian who owns it.
On the paper form
Write your mobile number on the consent form that goes home at the start of the year, check the box agreeing to receive texts, and sign it. You can also print the form here.
By text
Text the word START to the class number listed on the consent form or in my email signature. You will get one confirmation message back.
Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of anything. Your student’s participation, grade, and standing in my class are completely unaffected by whether you sign up.
What the messages look like
- Mr. Sajdak’s class: Reminder that the Unit 3 ecology test is Friday 9/12. Study guide is on the class site. Reply STOP to opt out.
- Mr. Sajdak’s class: Aiden was marked absent from 4th period today. Reply STOP to opt out.
- Mr. Sajdak’s class: Tomorrow’s lab is outdoors. Please send a jacket. Reply STOP to opt out.
- Message frequency
- Varies. Typically two to five messages per month, plus any replies to you.
- Cost
- I do not charge anything. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.
- Carriers
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Hours
- Messages are sent on school days. I answer replies during school hours.
How to stop, and how to get help
Reply STOP
Text STOP to the class number at any time and you will be removed immediately. You will get one message confirming it, and then nothing further. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT work the same way.
Reply HELP
Text HELP for contact information and a reminder of how to opt out. You can also just email me, and I will take your number off the list myself.
If you opt out and later change your mind, text START again or tell me in writing.
Privacy
This section covers the text message program specifically. The full privacy policy and the program terms are on their own pages.
Mobile information is never shared
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent is not shared with any third parties.
Message frequency and rates
Message frequency varies, typically two to five messages per month, plus any replies to you. I charge nothing for this. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier, and carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
What is collected
The mobile number you give me, the name of the student it belongs to, and the messages sent between us. Nothing else.
Why it is collected
To send you the messages described on this page, and to answer you when you reply. It is not used for any other purpose.
Who can see it
Me. The messages pass through Twilio, the telephone carrier that delivers them, in the same way that any phone call passes through a phone company. Twilio processes the messages in order to deliver them and does not receive your information for its own marketing use. Your number is not sold, rented, traded, or given to anyone for marketing, promotional, or advertising purposes, and it is not shared with other teachers, vendors, or data brokers.
How long it is kept
Through the end of the school year, after which the list is deleted. You can ask me to remove your number sooner at any time, for any reason or none.
Student information
Text messages are not a private channel. Because of that, I keep student detail in them to a minimum: a first name, an assignment, an absence. I do not send grades, evaluation results, health information, discipline records, or anything else from a student’s education record by text. If we need to discuss any of that, I will call or use my school email.
Children
This program is for parents and guardians. I do not knowingly enroll a number belonging to a student under 13.
