Free virtual science labs, with the worksheets

12 labs that run in a browser. Students change one thing, collect numbers, and explain what happened. I build them for my own classes and share them here.

Environmental Science

Ecology: how species and populations affect each other. 4 labs.

Anatomy & Physiology

The skin and the skeleton. 4 labs.

Chemistry

Atoms, light and bonding. 3 labs.

Atomic Spectra

Emission spectra, the Bohr model

Light up tubes of eleven gases, put on spectroscope glasses, zoom in to a single hydrogen atom, and identify a mystery gas from its lines.

16 questions · one class period · HS-PS1-1, HS-PS4-4, HS-ESS1-2

The Elements, Up Close

Periodic table, atomic models

An interactive periodic table. Pick any element to see a real sample, then see its atom eight ways, from Bohr to the electron cloud.

The Periodic Table in 3D

Periodic trends

Every element is a tower. Switch the height between atomic radius, ionization energy, electronegativity and five more, hide the d or f block, or wrap the table into a drum.

Answer keys

The keys stay off this site so students cannot find them. Teachers, email rsajdak@buffaloschools.org from your school address and I will send them.

Standards

Each teacher guide lists the NGSS performance expectations, science practices and crosscutting concepts for every part of the lab. New York's standards (NYSSLS) use the same codes.

Change them

Edit the worksheets to fit your class. If one of these works for your students, or breaks, I would like to hear about it.
